'London Pirate Frequencies'
Pirate radio stations are something of a dying breed now, as apparently anyone now has the ability to run their own internet radio station. However, this does not mean that the influence of pirate radio on the UK's musical subcultures can be so easily forgotten. Before the internet's popular accessibility provided a platform for the most obscure talents lurking in the underground, pirate radio was the only medium through which anything other than the mainstream's dirge could be accessed.
VBS TV's short documentary film provides an insider's view of the stations and people responsible for driving the UK's musical progression from the capital's tower block rooftops:
